Pirecris, new phytosanitary certifications
José Ángel Talavera, Chief Commercial Officer of Seipasa

Pirecris has completed 5 months in the Spanish market after the phytosanitary certificate was obtained. We interview José Ángel Talavera, Chief Commercial Officer of Seipasa.

How do you evaluate this period?

The initial results are excellent. We are very satisfied with the performance of a product whose efficacy is supported by more than 80 field tests applied in the most demanding farms around the world. Pirecris is a biopesticide developed to attain maximum efficacy in pest control such thrips, whiteflies, aphids or cicadellidae, among others.

Before obtaining the phytosanitary certificate in Spain, Pirecris already had an extensive background due to the certificates that support its use and commercialization in other countries of Europe, America or Africa. Seipasa's commitment and effort to put registered products on the market has been increasingly important in recent years. We are talking about a competitive advantage that clearly places Seipasa in a leadership position.

Which are Seipasa's plans in the short and medium term?

We are talking about a product that, apart from Spain, is already registered in France, Italy, Portugal, Mexico and Morocco. Seipasa’s effort and determination within the regulatory framework is already bringing positive results. Very soon Seipasa will expand the presence of Pirecris within the market due to the new phytosanitary certifications that are about to arrive. In a first wave, there will be in Spain and Italy through a label extension, while in France and Portugal there will be in a second wave.

We are talking about Europe but, which are Seipasa’s perspectives at a global level?

The presence of Pirecris will be extended to other countries such as Turkey, where very soon we will obtain the phytosanitary certificate. Seipasa is building an extensive network that also includes Peru and Israel, where we have started to work to put the product on the market with the corresponding label.

You mean the regulatory framework within the agricultural sector as an added value. Why?

We live in an increasingly regulated market by national and supranational bodies. Not only does agriculture have a radical impact on people’s health, but it also has very significant consequences on the environment. This is a key point that we must seriously take into consideration. A phytosanitary registration is an endorsement proving that the product entirely meets all the requirements for the safe production of food. In other words, it means that the product is adapted to the needs of each country and market.

Last October, Seipasa was awarded as the Best Formation Innovation at the Agrow Awards 2017 in London. What did such international recognotion mean for the company?

The Agrow Awards recognized all the innovation and research we applied to develop Fungisei. This is a broad-spectrum bio-fungicide whose patented technology allows for a liquid formulation based on microorganisms. Nowadays, Fungisei has the phytosanitary certification to be marketed the United States and Peru. The degree of satisfaction in all the farms where the product is being used is very high. In addition, Seipasa will soon arrive to Mexico and Morocco with Fungisei.

Needless to say that Seipasa has other products with a phytosanitary label such as Nakar. Nakar is a biopesticide with an excellent control by contact of soft-bodied insects. The product already has the phytosanitary certificate in Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Morocco. In Seipasa we have been working in the right direction for many years. All the efforts we have done are visible now, but positive results will continue in the future because more phytosanitary certifications will arrive soon.
