Seipasa, a Spanish company specialising in the development, formulation and production of bioinsecticides, biofungicides, biostimulants and nutritional treatments for agriculture, has inaugurated the second phase of the installation of solar panels at its industrial complex in L’Alcúdia, Valencia.
The new structure is located on the roof of the new headquarters and bioherbicide production plant opened by the company last September, and joins the one installed at the biopesticide production plant in 2022.
Thanks to this new own-consumption system, 40% of the electricity consumed by Seipasa in its production and work centres in Spain comes from solar energy. In total, the company’s photovoltaic strategy will prevent the emission of more than 36 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
This energy plan, which Seipasa launched in 2021, is part of the company’s sustainability strategy and aims to move towards a model that improves competitiveness and reduces the environmental impact of its production process.
This plan is accompanied by other energy efficiency measures that have led to a 57% reduction in lighting consumption through the installation of LED technology in all rooms, the replacement of skylights and the automation of all on/off systems.
100% green energy
María del Puig Mora, Seipasa’s director of Quality and the Environment, emphasised that this energy plan will allow the company to achieve its goal of operating with 100% green energy.
“Seipasa has taken another step forward in its strategy of responsible and sustainable environmental management, which allows us to generate 40% of the electricity we consume from the solar panels located on the roofs of our facilities. The rest of the energy consumed comes from renewable sources,” added Mora.
The company’s director of Quality and the Environment recalled that with the commissioning of this new photovoltaic facility, Seipasa is reaffirming its commitment to zero CO2 emissions from electricity consumption.
“Respect for the environment is the cornerstone of our sustainability policy. Our model firmly believes that innovation in developing new solutions for farming and respect for the environment go hand in hand. That is why we are working to reduce the footprint of our production process as much as possible at every stage", concludes Mora.
This Seipasa initiative contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 7 (affordable and clean energy), 12 (responsible production and consumption) and 13 (climate action).
